Stop and smell the roses, maybe give them a listen too…

In an effort to show off the beauty and intricacy of California native plant species, I have tried to give them their own voice. All of the music you hear in the videos below are created from the plant themselves.

The music was created through a device called Plant Wave. This device uses circuitry similar to what is used in a polygraph machine. Two electrodes attached to the leaves sense electricity made from the plant’s bio processes. This electricity is graphed as a wave, then translated in to pitch messages corresponding to musical instruments. Tones change through variation in activity level, and environmental influences such as wind, water, and other movement of the plant.
